Innovation in Mental Health

You know we are always working on something great!

This was the conference of the year in 2023.  All the leaders in Behavioral Health Technologies working together on building the future.

We went last year on a scholarship and were thankful and we found it was so inspiring.   

We took most of 2024 'off' this project because it was just a tough year for Bryan personally.   But strength builds and we are getting ready to go again in 2025.  

Trying to figure out if we can make it to this wonderful event again.  It might be the spark we need.

In July Bryan made his second attempt at the infamous Last Annual Vol State journey run (it is always 'the last').  It is 314 miles across rural Tennessee in the July Summer heat.  There is no official support, just you and the open road.  

Bryan likes being out on the road, life stressors fade in importance and Bryan feels it clears his head.   He also likes being connected with nature, seeing a shooting star while laying down for a rest,  and it restores his faith in humanity when a stranger stops to offer him a cold water.  Bryan also likes having more of an appreciation for those whose everyday life includes a search for food and shelter.   

2024 was one of the toughest race years with the endless 97 degree days.  Bryan made it 125 miles before a bout of heat exhaustion ended his time on the road. 

This might be a challenge that takes a couple of years to conquer.  We sometimes live with easy goals so as to avoid failure, but it might be in failure we learn to later be successful in difficult endeavors.  

It's official!!!!   It's a 7 month wait with the IRS after submitting  form 1023 paperwork and our application was finally processed and approved by the IRS.  Many opportunities require official status- so now it's a green light for grant applications.   

Naming hasn't gone well.  We started off thinking what set us apart was our visuals so we started as Visual Evaluations.  But in the wake of the Me Too movement, a 'visual evaluation' really took kind of a creepy turn.   So we changed over to Inclusive Intakes to highlight inclusion.   Now we still like the idea of 'inclusion', but then our intakes seem to get thought of as a DEI gimmick when what we are is a productivity tool.  We get information from the patients head into the providers charting.  That gets lost.    Maybe with a new corporate name.   Third time a charm? Any suggestions?

Bryan had the best experience walking through all the different departments at the Kansas City Art Institute for ArtPop 2024.   Bryan has a child there in the painting program.  

Much of the art represents the realities of mental health.   We have but a few overused words to chart the moods of our patients and sometimes Bryan thinks a picture would be a better descriptor of the patients condition then words.

Bryan was drawn to this piece by Digital Artist Sarah Baum.   So he bought it and will be using it @ Arrive.Clinic
